Pierre Duhaime, President and CEO, is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Chebl to the position of Executive Vice-President and member of the Office of the President, effective since February 9, 2012. Mr. Chebl takes over responsibility for the Infrastructure & Construction business unit, which carries out design, engineering and construction activities. He is based at the company’s head office in Montreal, Quebec.
Mr. Chebl has been with SNC-Lavalin for close to 30 years. He has taken part in numerous large-scale projects during his career as a structural engineer, including the Jacques-Cartier Bridge deck replacement, the Bell Centre and the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, the extension of the Montreal Metro line 2 east towards Laval, and the Alouette aluminum smelter in Sept-Îles. He has also worked on several international projects, including the Air Algérie Maintenance Centre in Algiers, the new Canadian Embassy in Haiti and the Canada Pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
Prior to being promoted to Executive Vice-President, Mr. Chebl held the position of Senior Vice-President, Buildings Group – Quebec, within the Infrastructure & Construction business unit. In that capacity, he was responsible for turnkey and private-public partnership (P3) building projects in Montreal, including the flagship Maison Symphonique concert hall and the McGill University Health Centre’s Glen Campus, which he headed until his recent appointment.
Mr. Chebl holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc) fromthe Université de Moncton and a Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc) from the Université de Sherbrooke. He is also a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. A seasoned lecturer, he regularly shares his expertise at various forums, both at universities in Montreal and on the international scene.
Mr. Chebl’s extensive experience in large-scale project management, both in Canada and abroad, in addition to his proven ability to lead and inspire teams, will assist him greatly in his new position.
